Senior Assistance Fund of Eastern Washington (SAFE) supports the development of a vibrant community where elders are valued, connections are created across generations, professionals know how to best serve the needs of older adults, older adults are prepared to age in place, and there is adequate funding for programs serving the most in need.
SAFE organizes educational events bringing relevant topics to caregivers, older adults, and professionals. This includes the Boomer & Beyond conference, as well as past sessions such as There Are No Right Answers: Ethical Dilemmas in Serving Older Adults, and The Unexpected Pleasures of Growing Older.
SAFE promotes the value and inclusion of older adults in our society through education, outreach, and presentations. We have held screenings of Age of Champions and The Age of Love to promote a positive image of aging and prompt community discussions on the role of elders in society.
SAFE encourages connections across generations. Annually we hold an essay contest with local grade-school aged children asking them to recognize an older adult who holds a special place in their life. A KHQ look at the 2014 contest can be found here (http://www.khq.com/story/25981013/a-salute-to-older-americans). Fostering intergenerational connections strengthens our communities.
Most seniors would prefer to live the remainder of their lives in their own homes. Some people are able to live independently, while other need assistance to stay at home. SAFE provides grants to local organizations providing programs to low income and at-risk seniors that are experiencing decreased state and federal funding. Your donations are used to support critical programs such as senior transportation, meals on wheels, family caregiver support, and home repair.
SAFE is the 501(c)3 fund raising arm of Aging & Long Term Care of Eastern Washington, your local Area Agency on Aging. Aging & Long Term Care provides and funds programs serving seniors, people with disabilities, and caregivers in Eastern Washington.
